Commercial solar + battery for Australian sites
Pair rooftop or ground-mount solar with battery storage and you generate, store and use your own daytime electricity — while keeping peak demand under control. Raylin Energy assesses Australian commercial and industrial sites from 200 kWh to 10 MWh for solar + battery combinations, on the same 261 kWh all-in-one liquid-cooled platform we scale from a single cabinet to multi-megawatt-hour systems. Raylin Energy is the EPC general contractor: we sign the project contract and stay your single accountable party for equipment, design, commissioning oversight and after-sales, with construction delivered by qualified, licensed Australian subcontractors we select and manage.
Three things the combination does that each alone cannot
Without a battery, excess solar during the day is exported at a low feed-in tariff. With a battery, that excess is stored and discharged during the expensive evening window — the same electrons, used at a higher value.
Pairing solar with a battery reduces the battery capacity needed to achieve a given demand reduction, because the solar array contributes to the daytime peak. This often lowers the total project cost compared with storage alone.
When paired with a battery sized for the critical sub-panel, solar continues to recharge the battery during a daytime outage — extending the time critical loads can run compared with a standalone battery backup.
How the system is usually set up
Three patterns cover most Australian commercial solar + battery projects. The right one depends on your existing infrastructure and tariff.
If you already have a working solar inverter, an AC-coupled battery can be added without disturbing the solar side. Common retrofit for sites that installed solar before storage was economic.
For new builds or full re-fits, a single hybrid inverter handles solar and battery on the DC side. Higher round-trip efficiency, but you replace the existing solar inverter.
If capital is the constraint, install solar now and add battery storage 6–18 months later once you have a year of operating data. The same inverters will usually accept the battery without rework.
Solar size and battery size are independent choices
Solar sizing depends on roof area, tariff and operating hours. Battery sizing depends on demand charges, evening load and resilience needs. The right ratio is rarely 1:1 in kWh.
We size each side from your bill, your site constraints and your operating hours, then check the ratio against the bill rather than guessing. The assessment starts with a copy of your most recent electricity bill — usually a PDF from your retailer portal.
Honesty before marketing
- We do not guarantee specific kWh generation figures — actual solar output depends on your roof orientation, tilt, shading and weather, and we cannot measure that without seeing the site.
- We do not guarantee a fixed percentage bill reduction. We will outline what is plausible given your tariff and load, and we will explain the assumptions we make.
- We do not guarantee government incentive outcomes. We will tell you what is currently published and what your eligibility looks like.
